-
Traditional activities such
as bee keeping come under our heading of home crafts. Care of pets generally is included under hobbies.
-
In addition to the care of
the bees and their hives, bee keeping involves the processing of the
honey combs into a variety of usable products, ranging from edible
honey to wax.
-
Bee keeping provides the
interest of understanding the behaviour of another species. It is
usually home based and has an element of money saving production or work
in it.

Skills and people
-
Bee keeping requires a degree
of special knowledge and skills if it is to be performed
correctly. It can be dangerous in the hands of the unskilled, but
people of all ages and both sexes can easily learn how to do it.
-
Care of bees is generally done at
or close to home, usually by an individual to
whom the bees have become accustomed.
-
Other people's help may be
called for in major tasks like hive moving and honey processing.
-
Many bee keepers belong to local groups or clubs to have access to the
expertise of others and to share experiences.
