What is LeisureVision?

LeisureVision is a new way of providing information and advice on how to get the most out of free time. It is a gateway to the wide range of leisure opportunities that are available, and it contributes to healthy living and a better quality of individual and community life.

Who is LeisureVision for?

Everyone can use LeisureVision, whatever their sex, age or family circumstances.  It is specially useful to people who face important life transitions, including teenagers and school leavers, people approaching retirement, the redundant and unemployed, and others with special needs.

Why do we need LeisureVision?

LeisureVision helps people to enrich their lives, to widen their horizons and to identify new interests.  It also helps to tackle individual problems like stress and boredom, loneliness and alienation, and to reduce social exclusion.

How does LeisureVision work?

LeisureVision has pages on almost 100 different ways of using free time, including sport, arts and crafts, hobbies and pastimes, learning in free time and volunteering..  They show you what the activity is, what you need to do it, how to get started, and where to find out more.  Click on index A-Z to go directly to the list of individual activities.  There is also a choice section that helps you select a short list of leisure possibilities that might interest you.

Future developments

LeisureVision is initially available to all through this web site.  It  can be used anywhere that has internet access, including schools and colleges, and libraries, as well as by individuals in their own homes.    The aim is to link the general LeisureVision system to local data sources and to improve the selection of activities  in the choice section.  This will encourage wider use of LeisureVision in community and leisure centres, shopping malls, company health and recreation facilities, hospitals and locations serving people with special needs, as part of local advice and counselling services.

The people behind LeisureVision

The LeisureVision scheme is a concept developed by Bill Martin and Sandra Mason of Leisure Consultants.   The LeisureVision Trust has been established as a non-profit vehicle for the project.  Leisure Consultants are seeking partners among local authorities, schools and other organisations for projects to test the LeisureVision concept in practice and its presentation to different target groups.
